A good footballing side will overcome adverse weather conditions, and so it proved in Porterstown when Celtic's U-13As took on Premier side St Malachy's in a Christmas Challenge. Celtic turned on the style from the off and 'aided' by a gale force wind, they were 3-0 up by half time. Their first came from an Owen Akpiama cross that was finished off by Michael Afuye who had the simplest of tap-ins. The second and third were strikes from Vilium Labutus and Kevin Long which gave Celtic a margin to defend against the gale-force wind and rain in the second half.
It was however more of the same in the second half with Celtic dominating. They did concede one to give the Saints some hope, but Owen Akpiama re-established the 3 goal margin when he rounded the keeper before hitting the net. Malachy's did keep on fighting, and got their second which kept them in the game. The last act was a Michael-Eugie combination that put the home side out of site of their Premier rivals who had been simply out-played and out-gunned in brutal weather conditions. This Celtic team can all look forward to a well-earned break and resuming the title charge in the New Year as they currently sit in second spot in the league table with 3 games in hand of the leaders Leicester Celtic. Happy Christmas to all our readers.
