A beautiful autumn morning at Porterstown welcomed last year's Castleknock Celtic's 2003 nemesis to D15. Rathcoole were a formidable opponent to Celtic last season and a welcome and friendly challenge to U14A1's bid for back to back promotions.
A very disciplined back 5, featuring stand in keeper Great Imole, wasn't troubled in the first half as Celtic dominated proceedings, but huge credit to the Rathcoole keeper who produced a Tom Heaton-like performance away to Chelsea to keep this worthy opposition in the game at 2-1 (ht).
Brendan Stangu was in the thick of the action for Celtic to convert his one of many chances created by the midfield of Klevis, Dino, Danny & Kacem. Despite all of the dominance, Rathcoole stayed in the game, until Kacem Touhiri produced a moment of magic to fire Celtic ahead with a 30 yard strike, reminiscent of Jamie Vardy....at his best. Maybe even Jimmy Case at his best !!
Celtic focussed on the basics in the second half and the regular framework of the back 5, featuring a very imposing performance from Tristan, allowed the movement of Fabian, Craig, Danny & new recuit Casper to break down Rathcoole. Ultimately this work rate allowed Brendan, Craig & Kacem to score and close the game out.
Credits to Liam Hosford & Hammad Siddique for accomodating the new defenders, Liam Wrafter & Conor Cooney into the new defence, Beni & Tristan for the lynchpin role as CDM.
Goal of the match.....let the fans vote...
