“Game Abandoned due to serious injury”
30 minutes into this enthralling encounter and Celtic leading 1-0 Tolka were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. Up stepped Tolka’s Conor Tyrrell, who was enjoying a great game, to strike the ball but within an instant the player collapsed on the ground in agony. Those nearby said they heard a cracking sound. The youngster was in severe pain and within minutes the match was abandoned as an Ambulance was awaited.
Given the serious nature of the injury the player lay in the middle of the pitch surrounded by his family and team mates but to the amazement of all it took 2 hours 30 minutes for an Ambulance to arrive which is unacceptable in this day and age. The repercussions of this delay may have been greater were it not for the intervention of Castleknock’s TOMMY BOWE who aside bring the Celts keeper’s (THOMAS) Dad also doubles up as a Paramedic in his day job. On seeing the incident Tommy ran straight to Conor’s aid and remained there for the 2.5 hours until the Ambulance arrived. On behalf of everyone we thank you Tommy for your kindness and professionalism.
Following Conor’s removal to Hospital he underwent an Operation which will keep the talented Tolka playmaker out of action for the immediate future.
From all at Castleknock Celtic we wish Conor a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing you on the pitch again in the not too distant future. Take care.
