Thomas Bolton 5-Goal Haul almost earns Castleknock Celtic the 3 points
Castleknock were delayed in heavy traffic on the Nutgrove Avenue which restricted their warm up preparations in Loreto Park for this away game against Leicester Celtic. It showed on the park when Leicester hit a rapid fire 4-goal salvo in the first 12 minutes which left the visitors visibly rocked back on their heels. The caretaker manager made 2 changes to the midfield, including Thomas Bolton, and all of a sudden there was a lot of composure in the Castleknock Celtic ranks. First half goalkeeper Ethan Hoey began distributing the ball to his defenders, Edward Nuzum and Mirav Vaitha. They in turn were seeking out their mid fielders, Matei Domsa, Michael Kelly, Briarton Murphy, Daniel Cryan and Gavin Peters. Sam Kelly was leading the attack, now supported by Thomas. It was not long before Castleknock Celtic were back in the game, and thanks to a lot of hard work, battling for every ball, the deficit was down to 2, with the home side leading 4-2 at the break.
The second half continued in the same vein and it was soon 3-4. Ethan Hoey had joined the attack, with Daniel Cryan taking over the goalkeeping duties. Ethan then received a lovely pass from the unselfish Thomas, and the keeper-turned-striker, from the edge of the box, crashed his shot against the underside of the crossbar. Maybe with the help of goal line technology, it may have been given as a goal, but the ref waved ‘play on’. Thomas however was not sitting back admiring Ethan’s thunderous shot, and he raced in to tap it home to make it 3-4. Soon after Mirav showed some football trickery in the middle of the park and he slid a pass to Thomas who raced through the middle and rifled home to bring the sides level. Leicester were visibly dumbstruck. This Castleknock steamroller was unstoppable. There was work however to be done at the back, and thanks to magnificent defending, particularly from Edward Nuzum and Matei Domsa, Castleknock kept the home side at bay. It looked like this was going to be a famous victory for the Castleknock Celtic boys, but Leicester had one last chance in the dying minutes, and their striker hit an unstoppable shot that went in under the crossbar, giving Daniel no chance in the goal. 5-5 and both sides deserve a huge amount of credit for a display that would have made compulsive viewing on Match of the Day tonight, but instead we will have to bore ourselves with Manchester Utd et al.
Well done to all the boys and thanks to each of you for a great morning’s entertainment on a damp but thankfully mild morning. See you Monday at 6.30 for training.
