Celtic welcomed Terenure Rangers to Porterstown Park for a challenge game. Celtic were quickly into their stride going close to scoring. Ruben Aherne’s shot on goal was stopped by the excellent Rangers keeper. 6 minutes later, it was Costel whose shot hit the crossbar. He was soon to get Celtic’s noses in front when he received a pass from James Bannerman. He got through 3 tackles before unleashing his shot past the despairing dive of the Rangers’ keeper. Kleo Malaj’s shot was saved by the Rangers’, while James’s effort was within a whisker of finding the target. The twins, Dylan and Daniel, were combining well and creating attacks for Celtic, showing skilful touches. Ren Mulligan’s shot was pushed over the bar just before half time. All the lads were confident that they were on top and could push on to victory in the second half.
5 minutes after the restart, Costel struck again after Ruben had raced along the left wing and crossed to Costel who shot home in style. And Costel was at it again within a minute as he executed a fine shot that gave the keeper no chance. 8 minutes into the half, Ruben became finisher when he got the ball 20 metres out and let fly with an unstoppable shot that went into the top of the net over the keeper’s hands. Joseph Dunne was forward too and his effort was blocked by the defender. Rei Mulligan in the Celtic goal was saving at the other end in his effort to keep a clean sheet. Halfway through the second half, we were treated to another gem when James Bannerman picked his spot in the top right hand corner of the net as he made it 5-0 with his precise strike. But Celtic weren’t finished yet. Frankie Donnelly vacated his left full position and ventured forward. He got possession on the edge of the box and shot home to finish Celtic’s scoring. There was a consolation for Rangers whose striker, Sonny Houlihan finished beautifully with 2 minutes remaining to make the final score 6-1 to Celtic.
