With the heavy rain overnight, this game was the only one to survive the weather on a warm morning in Porterstown. Castleknock has only suffered one defeat this season at the hands of Home Farm F.C who they face again next Saturday. Today’s game added that extra incentive of adding another three points on the board before next week’s top of the table clash. Castleknock started the game quickly by pressing the play early and moving the ball forward by using the channels for Dani Ursu on the left and Scott Daly on the right to run into. Luke Brady up front contributing effectively in the early stages as well. Zeke and Ciaran Eccles manned the fort in the middle of the pitch, whilst John Kane opened up the Peamount defence, with his cutting edge passing. The four lads at the back of Erion, Ryan, Chuck and Darren were comfortable for the first twenty minutes of the game, allowing Elih distribute the ball from the back. However, midway through the first half Castleknock were caught on the counter-attack and conceded by way of a long-range effort from Peamount. Although going a goal down Castleknock endeavoured to continue with their game plan by keeping the ball on the ground and playing from the back.
A couple of changes were made at half time with David G. coming on for Ryan, Alex Moore coming on for Darren at left back and Luke Brady making way for James Caffrey up front. David G. coming on in midfield and Ciaran E reverting back to centre-half for the injured Ryan. Castleknock started the second half all guns blazing and within 15 minutes were level with a superb run by Scott Daly on the left, beating his marker and cutting inside to strike the equaliser. Nothing more than what Castleknock deserved. As the half went on, Castleknock continued to cause Peamount problems with their slick passing. The three lads in the centre of the pitch creating most of the chances. Peamount did not pose much of a threat in the second half, but the back four of Erion, Ciaran, Chuck and Alex kept their concentration and cool to deal with any problems that did come before them. Castleknock keeper Elih keeping the game in full flow if the ball had gone out. Midway through the second half, James Caffrey was given a chance from midfield, from which he dribbled by a couple of defenders and slotted the ball past the opposition goalkeeper without fail. A composed finish. Minutes later Caffrey was once again through at the back four and he did not hesitate to compose himself again to grab his second of the game and put Castleknock 3-1 up with 20 minutes left on the clock. It was indeed a bright end to what had started out a very dull morning soaked in rain.
