Haloween Horror show sees Tolka punish Celtic
Castleknock have been playing well of late but a bit like Man City they just can’t get the job done in terms of getting wins with only one in their previous five. Tolka, arguably the hardest working team in the DDSL, were Saturday's opponents in this Bank Holiday weekend fixture.
Celtic started the brighter and within three minutes probably should have taken the lead. A Mark Hughes floated free kick found the unmarked Leigh Reilly whose header from 5 yards out sailed over the bar. From then on Celtic gave us their version of the Rocky Horror picture show as they literally unravelled. It was therefore no surprise that chances were few and far between. Tolka for their part, worked hard never letting Celtic settle and looked to capitalise on the break. In injury time Celtic conceded. A kickout was intercepted and laid off to old boy Kian Ryan. Still there was time for the centre back to close down but NO it didn’t happen as once again Celtic were slow to react. In fairness there was no denying the quality of Ryan’s finish. HT: 0-1
The Coaches said it as it was “ A terrible performance but you have 35 minutes to sort it out”. In fairness Celtic upped their game. More urgency and hard work saw Celtic dominate possession but in truth lacking the quality to make it count. Too many touches on the ball and lack of movement made Celtic easy to defend against which Tolka did with aplomb as they limited the Castleknock boys to long range efforts. Tolka were always comfortable and it was they with some swift breaks that looked the more likely to score. FT: 0-1
Well done to Tolka. A deserved win and in Keith O’ Donoghue they had the best player on the park as he marshalled the Tolka defence with a Man of the Match performance. Overall however this was not a game of high quality with Kian Ryan’s goal representing the only shot on target from either team in 70 minutes. For Celtic this was a performance to forge with only Nathan O Reilly, who played in goal and looked solid all day, and new boy, Sean Blood, able to hold their heads high. After some very good recent performances this was a real blow. To be honest this must have been a Halloween prank with some impostors in disguise dressing up like our Heroes. Whatever it was it’s over. It’s behind you. Learn and move on. We have had the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” but what we want next week is the real Castleknock Celtic. As Rocky Balboa would say NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER GIVE IN. This will make you stronger. Let’s get back to basics on Tuesday . Onwards and upwards.
