Second half rally by Celtic is not enough
Celtic were caught cold early on and went 3-0 down to the visiting Leicester team. Patrick O’Reilly pulled one back before half time when he got the ball in his own half and ran past a host of defenders before slotting the ball past the Leicester keeper. However, the home side still trailed by 4-1 at the break conceding one late in the half. Celtic did have chances with Anthony Cooke, Ethan Hoey and Sean Ogbomo all going close.
The second half saw a different Celtic come out with a lot more determination. They got their reward when Patrick was again on the mark after a pitch length run and a cool finish.
Very little was getting past Sam Kelly and Denis Diac in the Celtic defence, and the shots that got through were dealt with well by keeper Daniel Cryan, including one excellent stop in particular. Edward Nuzum was added to the midfield and was making penetrating runs. Mirav Vaitha and Sean combined on the right to create a chance for Patrick whose shot was just wide of the post. Brearton Murphy put in a splendid performance when introduced, while Michael Kelly was much more combative in the second half.
While Celtic went down 2-5 against table-toppers, Leicester, they had a lot to be pleased about at the end, as they had recovered their composure from a difficult position halfway through the first half, and were unlucky not to be closer to their opponents on the scoreline at the finish.
See you for training on Monday at 6pm.
